Millions of older adults fall each year, suffering serious injuries such as hip fractures and head trauma. These debilitating events often result in a loss of independence and a cascade of related health problems. During Falls Prevention Month this September, Hope encourages all individuals at risk of falling to join us for an important series of classes to improve your balance.

Tai Chi is a graceful form of exercise with simple, continuous movements performed in a slow, focused manner accompanied by deep breathing. Research has shown that with regular practice, Tai Chi improves functional balance and reduces the risk of falling. For those with Parkinson’s disease, Tai Chi can improve gait, walking ability and lower body muscle strength.

We welcome everyone over 60 years of age who would like to work on their balance to attend the upcoming Tai Chi Open Practices. We are also offering EZ Seated Tai Chi for participants in the Hope Parkinson Program with limited mobility. This version of the class combines the benefits of traditional Tai Chi with the safety of seated chair movements.
